Brain Awareness Week 2012

March 12, 2012toMarch 18, 2012

The impact of neuroscience in a knowledge-based society: ways of prevention and adaptation in cerebral neurodegenerative diseases

This is the 9th consecutive year when the National Neurosciences Society of Romania organizes in partnership with SOMS Brain Awareness Week (BAW) events with international participation at Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest.

Main events:

1) Scientific competition (Friday, March 16th 2012; 17:00-20:00; Big Amphitheater)

Theme:”Educational shifts modeling the brain and mind”

Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Leon Zagrean (UMF “Carol Davila”)

Students from various universities in Bucharest (Medicine, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Science etc.) are encouraged to send using the formular below (by March 10th – EXTENDED to March 13th) a scientific abstract (max 400 words) for a 10-minute Power Point presentation. The presentation will be related to the influence of different types of education on the brain, mind and the adaptation capacity of humans (e.g.: emotional intelligence – education through socialization, education through science, the relationship between art, brain and behavior etc.).

The abstracts can be based on personal ideas or on other ideas from the scientific literature/Internet and their creativity will be considered. The abstracts and the presentations from last year’s BAW can be found HERE. Other suggestions for making oral presentations can be found on our RESOURCES page.

The best 10 abstracts will be selected (by March 11th 14th) to be presented as 10-minute oral presentations during the main event, in a brainstorming session. We accept presentations both in Romanian and English and the choice of language will not bias their evaluation.

A broad panel of invited local and international experts including neuroscientists, physicians and psychologists will participate to a final debate and the best three presentations will be awarded.

Deadline for abstracts: Saturday, March 10th 2011, 10 p.m. (GMT +2) – EXTENDED to March 13th.

2) Official opening of the Brain Awareness Week 2012 (Monday, March 12th 2012; 16:00-19:00; Big Amphitheater)
