This was the 5th consecutive year when the National Neurosciences Society of Romania and SOMS organized BAW events with international participation. The event was hold at the main auditorium at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest.
Main event:
Mihai Moldovan was invited to hold a presentation (March 7th) about the theoretical background of event-related potentials (ERPs), explaining the electrophysiological methods used to investigate rapid brain processes and outlying the most interesting discoveries in this domain. Concrete examples were extracted from student EEG recordings and brain maps done in the Neuroscience Laboratory, “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Fourteen students took part of a contest, one of them being accepted to be part of a neuroscience research project for giving the most interesting definition of the brain.
Satellite events:
On March 9th, Mihai Moldovan and SOMS organized in the Neuroscience Laboratory a practical workshop about experimental recordings and methodological discussions. Ten students had the chance to understand what neuroscience research means, particularly regarding the investigation of how our brain processes colours in different situations by ERP recordings and behavioural testing.
During March 11th and 12th, scientific sessions were organized to promote neuroscience research interest among medical students, consisting of oral presentations with emphasis on ERPs. The programme was:
1. Student research. It’s possible! But why should we do it? (Students: Andrei Ilie, Dragos Ciocan)
2. Merging mind and machine (Student: Liana Nedescu)
3. Beyond advertising – subliminal messages (Student: Laura Nedelcu)
4. Artificial intelligence – from neurons to superior cognitive processes (Student: Ioana Goganau)
5. The mind influence on time perception (Student: Silvia Ioan)
6. Who’s in charge? Between brain and emotion (Student: Alexandra Constantinescu)
During a public debate (March 13th) on scientific presentations and publications, Mihai Moldovan commented upon an article, aiming to trigger the participants to look critically at the scientific texts published by others and outlining the idea that scientific writing deals with unambiguously formulated texts.
Afterwards, Mihai Moldovan was awarded the title of SOMS Honorary Member.
