Thursday, 26th of April, I had the pleasure of attending the Conference “Telocytes and Regenerative Medicine” held by Academician Laurenţiu Mircea Popescu in the Lecture Hall of the Romanian Academy.
The presentation materialized in an educative speech. It began with a brief history presenting some scientific personalities including George Emil Palade, Victor Babes, Gheorghe Marinescu.
It was emphasized the importance of a researcher’s mentor (e.g. G. Marinescu mentored by Charcot) and friend (e.g. V. Babes was a close friend of Louis Pasteur) as influence on the researcher.
TELOCYTES:
“L’avenir n’est pas écrit” Albert Jacquard cited by Academician Popescu.
They were discovered in 2010 by a team of researchers from the National Institute of Pathology “Victor Babes”, coordinated by Academician Laurenţiu Mircea Popescu and are recognized in more than 50 laboratories from 5 continents.
Telocytes are interstitial cells that present telopodes, visible under an electron microscope, located throughout the body. They are especially important in intercellular signaling and tissue regeneration.
Pending for clarification:
1. The existence of an interstitial (telocytes) tissue system distributed conforming to energy meridians
2. Telocytes’ involvement in diseases such as heart failure and neoplasms
3. Relationship Telocytes-Stem cells
For more information about this topic I recommend:
- Cardiac renewing: interstitial Cajal-like cells nurse cardiomyocyte progenitors in epicardial stem cell niches
- Cardiac telocytes — their junctions and functional implications
This is only a small fraction of the information that was presented Thursday.
Question: Would I attend this conference again? Answer: “Certainly!”
Take home message:
- To become an important person, immerse yourself around people with principles.
- Telocytes roles: intercellular signaling and tissue regeneration.
