“Running Brains” Brain Awareness Week 2013

For the 10th consecutive year the National Neurosciences Society of Romania and SOMS bring to you Brain Awareness Week (BAW) the global neuroscience campaign initiated by the DANA foundation. Multiple events with international participation will take place in multiple Bucharest locations, including Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy:
The public will have the opportunity to understand different approaches of the neuroscience from specialists in different fields: clinician, scientist, neurosurgeon, sports. In the second part of the day, a hands-on workshop will challenge the participants.
Laboratory Open Day
The participants will be engaged in various practical aspects of experimental neuroscience research including behavioral tests and telemetric EEG recordings. Different research laboratories will be available for visiting – please see the program for details. A special Telemetry Training will also be available at the Center for Excellence in Neuroscience from “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest.
The “I don’t remember” Neuroscience Differential Diagnosis Challenge for residents will be coordinated by Dr. Bogdan Ovidiu Popescu. Rewards will be offered for the brightest medical residents that will participate in this contest.
School visit
We will visit School No. 30 for interactive lectures, games regarding brain function and small experiments for children.
This is an international competition of science communication organised by the British Council in collaboration with SNN and SOMS. If you are aged 18 to 35 years old, aspire to share your passion for neuroscience and technology with the wider public, and want to develop your communication skills, take part in the 6th edition of FameLab Romania!

Does exercise boost your memory? “Running Brains” Fun Run
Test it your self! Join our 5-Km Race or bring your kids to participate in a 1-Km Run at Herastrau Park on Saturday, March 16, 2013. You’ll be part of a real scientific study that will find whether running helps memorizing. This event is organized in partnership with Primaria Municipiului Bucuresti, Federatia Romana de Atletism, Ministerul Tineretului si sportului, Societatea Stiintei, Excelentei Umane si Sportul Universitar, Centrul de Cercetari pentru Sanatate si Performanta prin Sport, World Class Romania, Clubul de Miscare pentru Sanatate, Diretia Sport Tineret Bucuresti and UMF “Carol Davila”.
